JJ Henry ended his PGA Tour victory drought on Sunday courtesy of a narrow win at the Reno-Tahoe Open.
JJ Henry: Sweet taste of succes
The American's first win was back in 2006 when he won the Buick Open following 176 tournaments and it took him another 178 Tour events to taste success again.
Henry, though, just about held on for the victory after a late charge from Alexandre Rocha on Sunday saw him finish one point ahead of the Brazilian on 43 points under the modified Stableford scoring system.
Having made scores 10, 12 and 14 on the first three days, he finished with a final-round of seven after ending with a bogey-par-par.
Rocha, who led at the halfway stage, finished with a par-birdie-birdie for nine points to put the pressure on Henry, but in the end he missed out by the narrowest of margins.
"It's been a long time coming," Henry told The Associated Press.
"I've been out here 12 straight years, so I've done something right," the 2006 U.S Ryder Cup team member said. "But it's been six years since I've won. To finally get over that hump again means a lot. ... Hopefully, I don't have to wait another 176 starts."
He added: "Alex played great and really kept the pressure on down the stretch to make it interesting out there," Henry said. "To be honest, those are some stressful holes coming in - 16, 17, 18. There's a lot of drama and a lot of things that kind of go through your mind, good, bad and indifferent on those last couple of holes."
Andres Romero, who led after the opening day, was a further five points adrift after ending with six points while John Mallinder finished fourth after picking up only two points with a round that included two birdies and two bogeys.
John Daly and Justin Leonard were tied for fifth after the former picked up five points and Leonard added seven to his total.
