This year's majors have been disappointing so far for Rory McIlroy, but he has one more chance to make amends.
McIlroy: Last chance at major glory this year
By his own admission, the second half of 2012 has not been the greatest. While he won early in the year at the Honda Classic and even took the World No 1 spot, his major showings since don't make for great reading - 40th at the Masters, missed cut at the US Open and 60th at the Open at Royal Lytham.
Yet a victory at Kiawah Island this week would more than make up for those showings, not to mention that it would be good enough to see the Northern Irishman retake the top spot in the rankings.
"There were a few goals I set myself at the start of the year, which I achieved - getting to number one in the world and winning a tournament early," said McIlroy.
"The second-half has still been pretty good, but a little bit more of a struggle.
"If I had to give my season a grade to this point I'd probably give it a B, but there's still a lot of golf left to play."
Even a poor showing this week would not signal the end of his season, with the PGA Tour FedEx Cup play-offs and the Ryder Cup still ahead.
As to his current approach to tournaments, McIlroy says he no longer spends hour after hour on the driving range.
"I need to get out there and play, see shots on the course," he said.
"I think certain players feel like they need to be on the range for two or three hours a day and really work on drills.
"I feel I practise much better on the course when I can see different shots and work off different targets - and just play.
"I'll still go and practise on the range and work on things that I have to, but once I feel comfortable that I've done that I want to go on the course and make sure it's good out there."
