World number three Lee Westwood is unsure whether extensive practice routines before Majors hamper or help golfers.
While the Englishman doesn't doubt the merits of preparation, he prefers not to play too much golf before a big event.
"You learn golf courses quickly and I've only played a few holes on this one but I feel like I'm getting to know it already," he told Sky Sports News.
"You see some guys come out and beat their brains on the range and then playing six-hour practice rounds - by the time Thursday comes they look like they've played a tournament.
"It's about keeping your energy up and being ready for game time," he added.
The Olympic club, where this year's US Open takes place, seems to favour accuracy over power and the Worksop-born Westwood is confident going into the event.
"They test your accuracy because they really penalise the inaccurate player. I hit it straight off the tee and I'm pretty good with my irons," he continued.
"I've been successful and come close over the past three years in majors."
