He didn't walk away with the trophy at Palm Beach, but Rory McIlroy feels there are plenty of positives to take into Doral this week.
Rory McIlroy: Happy with his game
The Northern Irishman led the first three rounds of the Honda Classic and he also held a three-shot led after six holes in the final round, but a double-bogey and a bogey in the space of two holes forced him to settle for a four-man playoff spot.
In the end he came up short as American Russell Henley walked away with the glory.
Despite not being able to get over the finish line, McIlroy will head into this week's WGC-Cadillac Championship in upbeat fashion.
"I was just disappointed with how I played coming down the stretch. It obviously wasn't what I would have liked," he said on Wednesday.
"But plenty of positives. Getting myself in position to win. It was my third stroke-play event of the year and third chance to win.
"So if you keep giving yourself those chances, then hopefully learn from the mistakes, then you're going to eventually walk through the door and win and then when you get into the habit of it, it becomes a bit easier."
He added: "I feel like my game is there to get into contention again this week and that's what I'll try and do. I've been in contention every time that I've teed it up (this year) so I'm happy with that."
The world number six's last victory came at the Australian Open in December, but he is not too bothered by the fact that he has now gone a couple of months without winning.
"You're not going to win every event that you play but if you can give yourself at least a chance going into Sunday, then that's all you can really ask of yourself," he said.
"I don't think it's not realistic to sit here and say, I want to win every tournament I play, because ...history shows it's just not possible.
"But giving yourself a chance and getting yourself into contention is what I expect of myself and everyone knows that I didn't do that enough last year at all.
"I've started this year better because I've been in contention every time that I've teed it up."
