Zach Johnson has joined the list of high-profile players who have decided to take a break from the game early in the new year.
Zach Johnson: Recharging his batteries
Masters champion Adam Scott and US Open winner Justin Rose are two of the highest-ranked players who won't take part in competitive golf over the next few weeks as they recharge their batteries.
Johnson, the 2007 Masters champion, was in action at the Humana Challenge in La Quinta, California, this weekend where he finished tied third after an impressive final round of 10-under-par 62.
However, he will take the next four weeks off before returning at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Tucson, Arizona, on February 19.
"I am going to have a meeting with my guys (caddie, coach and manager) and see what's the best way to maintain where I'm at, if not improve on it," Johnson said.
"I will practise but I will take some time off too. The first couple of weeks will certainly be a lot of down time with the family.
"The last two weeks coming into Tucson I will get the clubs out again and start working, try to get back into that mode and certainly that posture."
Johnson has made a good start to the new season as he was third in California and also finished tied eighth at last week's Sony Open in Hawaii, but it's a catch 22 for him as most players struggle to get going again once they've taken a break.
"I am never going to be content," the world number six said. "I'm going to try to maintain and keep the good vibes and forget everything else. This week will be irrelevant once Tucson hits me."
