World number one Rory McIlroy has been named the PGA of America's Player of the Year and has won the Vardon Trophy for the lowest scoring average of the season.

Twin champion: Rory McIlroy

The Ulsterman won four tournaments in the US during an excellent year when he copied Ryder Cup team-mate Luke Donald's achievement in 2011 of topping the money lists on either side of the Atlantic.
World number two Tiger Woods was second in the Player of the Year race, but wasn't considered for the Vardon Trophy after he withdrew from the WGC-Cadillac Championship in Miami in March. Otherwise the former world number one would have finished second on 68.9 to McIlroy's 68.87. Instead Jim Furyk was named the runner-up with a score of 69.3.
The PGA Tour has its own Player of the Year Trophy - which will be decided on Novermber 30 - but McIlRoy is the hot favourite to win it as well. He is nominated alongside Jason Dufner, Bubba Watson, Brandt Snedeker and Woods.
The winner of the weekend's Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, Charlie Beljan, has been nominated in the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year category.
Jonas Blixt, Bud Cauley, John Huh and Ted Potter are the other nominees, with Cauley the only player not to win an event during the year. However, he did finish in the top 10 on six occasions, which is more than any other rookie on the PGA Tour.
