John Mallinger moved into the lead in the Frys.com Open in California  with a memorable day on the green, equaling the course record at  CordeValle.

The day before, Australian Nick O'Hern had achieved the same  feat, but he slipped down the leaderboard as Mallinger hit a nine-under  62 to head the field by four.  
Mallinger was bogey-free for his round, and also registered an  eagle at the par-five 15th as well as seven birdies. He ended the day 14  under overall, ahead of compatriot Billy Horschel and Venezuela's  Jhonattan Vegas.  
O'Hern, meanwhile, managed a level-par 71 leaving him nine under  and equal fourth with Belgian Ryder Cup star Nicolas Colsaerts and USA's  Scott Dunlap.  
England's Greg Owen finished seven under overall and in a tie for  ninth, three strokes ahead of Scotland's Russell Knox and defending  champion Bryce Molder.
