Padraig Harrington insists that he blames himself, not Ryder Cup skipper Jose Maria Olazabal, for not making the tournament.
The Irishman has endured a poor season and did not secure automatic qualification for next month's event. As such, he was relying on being one of Olazabal's two wildcard picks in order to join the European contingent in Medinah.
The pair do not have the best of relationships, having had a public fall out at the 2003 Seve Trophy. It was suggested that this could see Harrington miss out on a spot, but the 40-year-old insists that this was not the case after Ian Poulter and the in-form Nicolas Colsaerts were chosen by Olazabal.
"Even the dogs in the street knew I wasn't getting a pick, so it wasn't a tough phone call for me to take in any way whatsoever," said Harrington.
"If you don't make it into the team automatically, you can't have any regrets. You can't second-guess not getting a pick if you don't make it on merit.
"It was a polite phone call from Jose. What he had to say wasn't news to me and I was quite comfortable with his two picks. It's not like he's picked somebody out of the blue. Ian and Nicolas were very obvious selections, so there are no questions or issues or anything like that."
