Webb Simpson leads the USPGA Tour Greenbrier Classic after the second round, but Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson were projected to miss the cut in West Virginia.
Overnight leader: Webb Simpson
Simpson, the US Open champion, carded a bogey-free 66 to claim a one-stroke lead on nine-under par when bad light stopped play with 12 players still on course.
In second place is Rookie Charlie Belja - who shot a career-best 62 - along with Jonathan Byrd (68), Jerry Kelly (66), and Jeff Maggert (68). Also on eight-under is Martin Flores, who still has two holes to play.
Tied for seventh one stroke further back is South Korea's Charlie Wi (66) and another American, JB Holmes (68).
Overnight leader Vijay Singh fired a disappointing 74 to slip off the pace.
Meanwhile, Woods shot a 69 on Friday to leave him level par at the halfway stage, but Mickelson could only manage another 71, leaving him two over par.
With the cut at one-under, this is the first tournament in their professional careers that the American duo missed the cut in the same tournament.
"I didn't quite have it," a disappointed Woods said after his round.
"I just did not have the feel for the distances.
"The ball was just going forever. I didn't hit the ball pin high, and that's one of the hallmarks of my game. I can hit pin high pretty consistently and I just did not do that at all," the 14-time major champion added.
"It happens, we miss cuts out here."
