Woods came from a shot behind at Congressional on Sunday, a two-under-par 71 taking him to eight under par and two strokes clear of Bo Van Pelt.
Australian Adam Scott finished alone in third a further shot back after a 67, while Robert Garrigus (70), Jhonattan Vegas (71), Seung-yul Noh (73) and Billy Hurley (72) shared fourth place on four under.
Overnight leader Brendon de Jonge, who was chasing his first PGA Tour win, fell apart with a 77 to finish in a tie for 11th place.
Woods' win now takes him ahead of Jack Nicklaus on the all-time winners list and behind only Sam Snead on 82. It's also his third win of 2012 and it has given him the FedEx Cup lead.
"What an incredible week," said the 14-time major champ.
"Everybody, thank you for being patient with us. Yesterday was a silent day. I think everyone saved up for today. What an atmosphere to play in front of."
Woods was referring to Saturday's spectator-less third round, after the course had been deemed unsafe for all but the essential volunteers due to storms that battered the mid-Atlantic.
Woods is growing in confidence with every victory and, true to form, is eyeing a lot more of them.
"I've had a pretty good career," he said. "To do it at 36, I feel like I have a lot of years ahead of me.
