It has taken her 144 tournaments and seven years, but Brittany Lang can finally call herself an LPGA Tour winner after securing victory at the Manulife Financial Classic.
The American birdied the par-five 18th three consecutive times in a play-off to edge Seo Hee-kyung, Inbee Park and Chella Choi at the Grey Silo course in Ontario.
Lang secured her place in the play-off after carding a four-under 67 to finish level on 16-under par with the Korean trio.
Choi was knocked out on the first extra hole while overnight leader Park, whose only LPGA victory came at the 2008 US Women's Open, dropped out after the second hole.
Lang made it three birdies in a row when she rolled in an easy putt, claiming her maiden victory in the process.
"I can't believe it took me seven years to win a tournament out here," told lpga.com.
"I hadn't been that good under pressure and I'm getting better, and I'm so thankful that it happened this week and I'll only get stronger from here."
"I still can't believe that I'm the first Dukie to ever win an LPGA tournament. That blows my mind with all the talent that comes out of there, but I'm very thankful and very honoured."
Lang is the fourth first-time winner on the tour this year, following in the footsteps of fellow American Jessica Korda, Spain's Azahara Munoz and Shanshan Feng from China.
Reigning US Women's Open champion Ryu So-yeon and American Stacy Lewis finished in a tie for fifth at 15-under while Feng was a further adrift along with Sweden's Anna Nordqvist.
