Rory McIlroy carded a nightmare five-over-par 77 to fall out of contention on day three of the Masters.
Paired with Sergio Garcia, who himself could do no better than a 75, McIlroy's three birdies weren't nearly enough to make up for four bogeys and two double bogeys on what he could only describe as a "tough day".
McIlroy took all of 42 shots to get to the turn, eventually finishing on one over par, a full 10 shots off Peter Hanson's lead, while Garcia lies on one under.
"We both dragged each other down," said McIlroy. "We didn't get off to the best of starts and couldn't get it together after that.
"I'm pretty drained," added Garcia. "It was a tough day. I couldn't get any momentum - until the 12th but then we both three-putted at the 13th."
McIlroy and Garcia are both likely to make Europe's Ryder Cup team later this year and the Northern Irishman joked that they might have had more luck playing in a matchplay format.
"We probably would have been better playing foursomes," he added. "I hit the tee shot, Sergio hits the second - it was one of those days."
