Colin Montgomerie has described his recent visit to Afghanistan to help support British troops as a "life-changing trip".
The ex-Ryder Cup captain was recently reunited with some of the soldiers at the annual PGA fundraising lunch in London, where one of the donations included a a £25,000 cheque to the charity set up in memory of Montgomerie's mother.
"I was honoured to have been given the opportunity to represent the PGA along with (captain) Eddie Bullock and (ex-captain) Parnell Reilly," said Montgomerie.
"The memory of teaching the youth of downtown Kabul how to swing a golf club is one that will linger.
"All these children have known is war - they were born in war, they remain in war, they know nothing different."
